The Olympics have come and gone and I am a little bit sad about that.
I enjoyed the games. I think I shed a tear each night that I watched.
I hated the time difference and there were a few events where I did not want to know who won until the evening when I was able to watch. However good ole social media kinda ruined that for me. 😁
Of course, I was cheering on Simone Biles. Her transparency about her mental wellness was good for the world to see. The dialogue generated will hopefully keep a conversation going about the stigma with mental health. Seeing her stay and genuinely cheering on her teammates was so nice to see.
The entire USA gymnastics team had so many good moments: Suni Lee and her dad’s story, Jordan Chiles and the struggles she’s faced with not knowing if she’d continue to compete, and MyKayla Skinner finally getting her medal.
When you look at the Olympic gymnastics team you see diversity, triumph, joy, and genuine sisterhood.
One of the best parts about this year's Olympics was seeing the athletes on their own social media accounts sharing tik tok dances and behind-the-scenes fun.
There is one guy from Great Britain that I have to mention and that is Tom Daley. He is a diver and he knitted in between games. He said he learned to knit and crochet before the Olympic Games to help him stay calm.
And here is the finished product:
He did a great job with sweater! I may need to break out my crochet hooks! LOL.
As we head into this new week with no Olympics to watch ☹ let us be grateful for access to the internet and replay if we want to rewatch. More importantly let's hold on to the stories of triumph, joy, happiness, and the accomplishments of all of the athletes. Not all walked away with medals but they still have so much to be proud of by making it to the Olympic Games.
Just like in our lives, not each day or moment is worthy of a gold star, praise, or to be proud of. The good news is that we get a chance to do some things again, a chance to make things right, and to grow as people. ❤
Well done! 😊
